Rawdah
When in Madinah, I hear the bursting beat of my heart
anticipating the meeting, each day at the end and start
because us women get around 7 and somewhere around 10
and each day we try to go back again
because Rasoolullah SAW is there
and we wouldn’t want to be any other somewhere
despite the long wait and the screams in languages we don’t know
or the groups of women sprinting, trying to get to the first row
we try to sit in patience, waiting for our turn to go
and when it happens… you know
either from the rise in energy pushing against you from all sides
women of every nation next to, in front of and behind
or you know from the sound, you might think a silent calm
but instead loud cries and just every kind of heart song
because we’re walking now or at times being carried off the ground
by our hearts rushing forward or the women squishing us all around
but i don’t mind, we’re almost there, many of us coming from so far
Suddenly a burst through the air
assalamu ‘alayka yaa RasoolaLlah
tears are seen and are felt and all around are different cries
like the love just overflowed from the hearts and pushed through to every eyes
And even with some discomfort from the volume, lack of space and electric air above
take me back to Madinah, take me to where the hearts are overwhelmed by love
