“Oh, my Beloved Sister” – Student Poem
Oh, my beloved sister
Do you remember when Allah inspired your heart?
To choose yourself, renew your intentions and begin this chapter with a fresh start. Do you recall how you ended up here of all places?
And how this sisterhood became one of your sacred spaces?
Oh, my beloved sister
I urge you to think about why Allah chose you of all people to sit here today, And why He picked you above everyone to walk this spiritual pathway.
Oh, my beloved sister
We sat by the feet of our teachers eager to learn valuable knowledge and lessons, About the beauty of living Islam and its pure essence.
And when the pandemic hit, our immunity could not resist,
Yet our journey continued even when lockdown would persist.
And oh that tranquil feeling of Taronga Masjid, we will truly miss,
Now let me share my experience with you so together we can reminisce.
I closed my eyes in class and travelled around the world to meet great scholars of Deen, I translated hadith with Ml Radia from Imam Nawawi’s Riyaad-us-Saliheen.
I was captivated by Sheikh Londt’s techniques of teaching Seerah and poetry,
I could not help myself but admire his grasp on the Arabic language and his eloquency.
In Mustalah ul hadith, Ml Khalil taught us the difference between Daif, Hasan and Sahih, In Sarf, Ml Faatin explained that the Amr verb is only applicable to the scale of Mudaari.
With Ml Hajir, I learnt the etiquette of the Qur’an,
And was purified in the early hours by Ml Roshaan,
With Ml Laylah I learnt the Fiqh about Hayd, Taharah and many other Arkaan. And yes, indeed we all felt the great loss of the esteemed Ml Tahaa Karaan,
His impeccable character, broad spectrum of knowledge and essence of Ihsaan.
With Ml Muaadth I learnt that Allah always knows best,
and that if you ‘dom’ you gonna suffer because this Dunya is a test.
I learnt so much from him whilst laughing in his classes until I had tears in my eyes,
And in Qitaaf with Ml Ielhaam, I realised that if I want to be a good student like Zaid I need to revise.
In Ulumul Qur’an with Ml Gairiyyah I explored the stages of Qur’anic revelation,
And envisioned what the Prophet ﷺ endured in order to deliver this miracle to all of creation.
In addition, I was able to identify diseases within my very own heart,
And how I could treat each one by accepting accountability as a start.
Ml Shahana equipped me with skills to develop myself internally,
And in Aqidah, Ml Irshaad explained how Duah can change one’s trajectory.
Oh, my beloved sister
That all being said, together we have forged a bond that is sacred and pure,
And a sisterhood that will last a lifetime, this I can assure.
I urge you to not fret or fear,
About what is to come now or next year.
Remember “Wa’dallahil haqq”- The promise of Allah is true.
So, trust that He has ordained a suitable plan for you.
Oh, my beloved sister
The best way to thank our teachers is to make Duah for them to Allah Subahana-ta-Allah,
And pray that we meet with them in the highest abode of Jannah.
For we will never be able to repay them for sacrificing their efforts and time,
And so we will continue to uphold and pass on the prophetic legacy in our lifetime.
So, my beloved sister
Now, do you understand where choosing yourself has led?
